Gallery Director/Instructor

The Department of Visual Arts is currently seeking an active Art Historian and experienced instructor with practice in Gallery and Museum Studies. The successful candidate will teach foundational and advanced Art History courses and Museum Studies courses and will oversee the curatorial and day to day operations of the Sechrest Art Gallery on the HPU campus.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
MFA in Art History required
PhD in Art History preferred
Post-secondary teaching experience required
Applied Museum and/or Gallery experience or Museum Studies certification required
Phi Beta Kappa membership preferred
Active participation in relevant professional organizations preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
Extensive knowledge of foundational and advanced Art History
Knowledge of Museum Studies
Ability to successfully manage day-to-day art gallery operations

Essential Functions:
Teach foundational and advanced Art History courses
Teach Museum Studies courses
Active participation in departmental affairs
Conduct program reviews, curriculum development and recruitment of students
Complete course assessment
Serve on University committees
Provide engagement outside of the classroom with student activities and learning practices in the University and larger community

Accountability:
This position works collaboratively with seventeen dynamic and collegial faculty members in the School of Art and Design.
This position reports to the Chair of Visual Arts
