Traveling Exhibition Department Director

International Arts & Artists, a 23-year old exciting, dynamic non-profit arts organization based in downtown Washington DC, seeks a director for its Traveling Exhibition Service. Qualified candidates’ primary obligations will be: 1. Securing and developing traveling exhibitions through a number of sources to be presented in museums around the U.S. and abroad. 2. Maintaining and developing the organization’s network of partners and collaborators. 3. Managing a staff of seven or more professionals and interns. 4. Ensuring that the department maintains and exceeds its service and budgetary obligations. Specific Qualifications: • Relevant degree(s), a minimum of bachelor’s degree, higher level of education preferred. • Proven substantial experience as a museum professional, concentration in curatorial work preferred • Experience with all aspects of traveling exhibitions • Network and contacts within the museum and art world • Proven dynamic leadership ability To be considered a candidate must be passionate about the arts, and particularly the use of the arts in facilitating understanding across cultural and international boundaries. Candidates must be knowledgeable, motivated, energized, and have proven leadership and management experience. Compensation / Benefits: Salary between $65,000-$85,000, depending upon experience + health insurance & other benefits. Founded in 1995, IA&A promotes international and cross-cultural understanding through its services to museums and cultural institutions. IA&A’s traveling exhibition service provides the largest number of fine arts and decorative arts exhibitions touring in the United States. As of 2018, A&A had produced over 100 traveling exhibitions that have been placed over 700 times in over 400 museums. On the average, IA&A’s traveling exhibition service has between 15-25 exhibitions circulating at any given time, with several dozen more in development. Additionally, IA&A runs a cultural exchange program bringing 130-160 interns, trainees and scholars annually to the US. IA&A also operates an in-house design studio and an on-site contemporary arts space.
