Executive Director

The Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA) is hiring a new Executive Director.

Founded in 1984 as the Santa Monica Museum of Art (SMMoA) and reestablished in 2017 with a new identity and home in Downtown Los Angeles, ICA LA has a distinguished history of groundbreaking curatorial and public programming that has illuminated important untold stories and emerging voices in contemporary art and culture. The museum's 12,700 square-foot renovated industrial building is an epicenter of artistic experimentation and an incubator of new strategies for making contemporary art relevant and accessible for all. Admission is free.

ICA LA's mission is to support art that sparks the pleasure of discovery and challenges the way we see and experience the world, ourselves, and each other. ICA LA is committed to upending hierarchies of race, class, gender, and culture. Through exhibitions, education programs, and community partnerships, ICA LA fosters critique of the familiar and empathy with the different.

The new Executive Director will advance this mission and grow ICA LA's local, national, and international impact as an organization committed to art and social change. In the new Executive Director, ICA LA seeks inspiring leader who can develop, articulate, and implement a new vision for what a contemporary arts organization can be and new strategies for realizing that vision. This person will partner with a dedicated staff, a dynamic Board of Directors, and a passionate Artists' Advisory Council to carve out new space for ICA LA in the Los Angeles cultural landscape and beyond. This person will be a compelling, versatile, and experienced fundraiser, bringing an established network of donors to support this exciting new vision.

Social activism and social justice are in ICA LA's DNA. This leader will be a forceful advocate for the organization and the communities it serves. The Executive Director will know how to use art as a vehicle for social change and will serve as an ambassador for ICA LA among diverse communities. This artistic leader will strive to make contemporary art relevant and accessible to all.
