The newly expanded and renovated Hood Museum of Art at Dartmouth, Hanover, New Hampshire, seeks an experienced security/building manager to establish and manage high standards of building maintenance and operations and safety for a high-visibility, heavily used, and architecturally significant structure, its staff, its art collections, and its grounds. To manage all activities associated with maintaining the safety, appearance, and effective and efficient use of the museum.

The security/building manager maintains access control to all areas in the museum, implements communication procedures, conducts periodic staff training on emergency procedures, and regularly monitoring the HVAC system. Communicates with managing staff on the building’s performance and coordinates closely with the Visitor Services Manager. Communicates with campus and community providers, including safety and security, campus facilities, operations, management personnel, and local fire and police departments about specifics of museum security system. Serves as member of the College’s emergency preparedness team. The security/building manager trains all visitor services guides to open, close, and control access to museum facilities and ensures that the guides are properly trained on life safety (including AEDs) issues and ADA accessibility issues.

The security/building manager is responsible for the maintenance and appearance of the facility, and manages the work of the museum’s custodian, contractors, and facilities crews. Communicates with external providers and relevant museum staff. Manages all vendor contracts associated with structure maintenance and operations, including custodial, fire detection and protection, elevators, HVAC, security, audio/visual, electrical, and mechanical.

Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience, and three to five years of experience with security systems, building management, and visitor relations, preferably in a museum environment. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including during evening and weekend events.
