Membership and Visitor Services Director

PURPOSE & SCOPE
The Membership and Visitor Services Director works within the larger community to grow the museum’s philanthropic support by broadening and increasing membership and ensuring positive visitor experiences. In collaboration with Development, they oversee acquisition and retention for all membership groups across a range of individual and business levels; coordinate and attend member events; develop and maintain membership databases. They are responsible for establishing a vision and strategy for providing excellent customer service to all onsite visitors, through all forms of correspondence, and virtually. The Membership and Visitor Services Director supervises a team comprised of public-facing and back-of-house staff.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
• Propose, implement, and evaluate an annual strategic plan for membership programs and visitor services in sync with the Museum’s mission.
• Work with Development to strategize and implement end-of-year campaigns for the Annual Fund
• Lead the Membership and Visitor Services team, setting a vision for clear, smooth, and enjoyable member and visitor experience at all touch points throughout the building; ensure that the department structure, procedures, and practices support effective and efficient operations; and make recommendations to executive staff for improvements to the visitor experience as they pertain to quality of service, amenities, facilities, policies, and procedures.
• Analyze and update Museum wayfinding on an ongoing basis
• Conceive, plan, implement, and attend membership events both onsite and off-site. 
• Manage group tours and collaborate with the Education Department to reserve docents.
• Analyze and assess programs on an ongoing basis; develop, execute, and evaluate new strategies for obtaining, sustaining, and upgrading members and donors.
• Serve as a positive, enthusiastic presence as well as ambassador of the Museum, maintaining a calm, cool, and collected demeanor. Serve as a voice of reason with displeased guests to ensure their visit is enjoyable.
• Hire, train, inspire, inform, and evaluate team to provide high-level customer service in person and through correspondence; ensure that all front-of-house and public-facing staff are well versed on Museum activities and info.
• Maintain schedule for visitor services associates, ensuring all breaks and PTO are covered.
• Engage in and oversee communication with constituencies: respond to all inquiries and problems in a timely fashion; follow up with potential members and visitors, track results and report on initiatives; process member transactions, take program reservations, field comments and complaints.
• Maintain vendor relationships and ensure department is well-stocked on necessary materials; oversee relationship between the Museum and the Café, including ongoing efforts to ensure high-quality menu offerings, maintaining an appealing appearance, and keeping the café operators up to date with the Museum’s open hours and programs.
• Conceptualize and oversee marketing efforts for membership and visitor services: draft copy for web, social media, newsletters, PR, brochures, mailings, and invites; work with colleagues to develop and execute marketing and promotional strategies for membership acquisition and improve visitor experience. 
• Ensure all webforms for membership, member events, and general admission are functioning and user-friendly
• Create and maintain annual budgets; provide review and analysis.
• Other duties as assigned by Deputy Director, Director of Development, or Director.


QUALIFICATIONS    
Education:  Bachelor’s degree; background clearances are required. 


Experience:  At least 2 years of non-profit experience, work within membership or development departments and management experience preferred. 


Other:  Must have fluidity with Microsoft Office and a working knowledge of databases (Parrish Art Museum uses Altru which is a Blackbaud product, similar to Raiser’s Edge). 

Working Conditions: Work will be performed in a normal office environment. Moves about the museum on an as needed basis to successfully perform job. Travel and weekend work is required based on events and locations. The physical demands and work environment characteristics are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. Scope of Authority: Must accept direction from the Director. Supervises and manages Development Assistants in coordination with other development department staff.

Interpersonal Communications: Needs to possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Individual needs to be approachable and responsible. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and work well as part of a team. Strong social and public presence. Creativity and flexibility of work style a plus. Position must be able to work both independently and with a variety of staff, committees, vendors as well as the general public. This position requires confidentiality, integrity, understanding, and high ethical standards.
