Executive Director, Grammy Museum Experience

Position Summary:

The Executive Director will develop and manage instructional programs targeted specifically to schools, special events and the local community.  In addition to having strong knowledge of the educational system, well-built contacts in the music industry and a solid professional background, leading candidates will also embrace the mission of the GRAMMY Museum Experience (GME) and the vision and goals of the institution. The Executive Director will oversee a Business Operations staff member who will be responsible for all aspects of operation of GRAMMY Museum Experience TM Prudential Center. Candidate should be a person of character and integrity and should have an inclusive and respectful management and leadership style.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·  Responsible for overseeing the design and development of comprehensive and innovative programs that recognize and nurture individual creativity, promote participation, and encourage exploration

·  Manage a Business Operations staff member who is responsible for overseeing museum operations including but not limited to budgeting, revenue generation, programs & events, artist relations, box office/retail operations, facilities maintenance, marketing, group sales, event production and collection management

·  Liaison with Prudential Center and Foundation staff

·  Design and deliver a far-reaching education strategy and a tactical implementation plan to meet the needs and intent of GME with the help of the staff of the GRAMMY Museum at L.A. Live

·  Represent the Experience at community events   ·  Serve as the public face of GME in the education and music community

·   Develop education and arts community relationships

·   Work with management on program-related and education-related funding opportunities

·  Expand themes introduced in various aspects of GME, and leverage the commitment to an open and broad presentation of ideas that promote music, creativity, critical thinking and dialogue

·  Understand and employ state and national education standards

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Three to five years of management experience leading a strong team of professionals and multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

· Three years minimum experience planning, developing, designing and implementing successful instructional and community programs with an emphasis on inspiring creativity and innovation throughout the curriculum and dialogue

· Knowledge of and/or experience in a K-12 learning environment

· Experience with program evaluation and grant writing

· Must be energetic, articulate and self-assured, and possess strong interpersonal skills

· Ability to exercise a strong presence to convene groups, shape dialogues, and develop and manage productive relationships at all levels

· Must have excellent analytical skill and judgment

· Must have strong proficiency in computer technology and software

·  Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential

· Must have proven experience producing educational materials for publication

· Must be detail oriented, with strong organizational skills in order to manage a continuous workflow of a high volume, multi-tasking environment

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment with a dynamic range of people

·Previous experience and familiarity with collections management, artifact handling and storage 

Educational Background Required:

· B.S. or B.A. in Education, Non-Profit Management, or Museum Studies OR related field of experience

Travel Requirements

May be required to travel on rare occasions (<5% travel); trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay for one or more nights.       Physical Demands   This position requires the ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

Work Environment

This position generally requires that work be performed from the Prudential Center/New Jersey Devils offices, but attendance at events taking place in the arena or offsite, including on weekends and/or holidays, may be required.

 

About GRAMMY Museum Experience Prudential Center:

Built and operated by the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., the 8,200-square-foot GRAMMY Museum Experience – set to open in October 2017 – is housed within the Prudential Center, an AEG facility that hosts approximately 200 sports and entertainment events per year. The Experience marks the first GRAMMY Museum outpost to be built on the East Coast and, similar to the original GRAMMY Museum in Los Angeles, the Experience will be dedicated to exploring the past, present and future of music, and the cultural context from which it emerges, while casting a focused spotlight on the deep musical roots of New Jersey. The Experience will feature a dynamic combination of educational programming and interactive permanent and traveling exhibits, including a spotlight on legendary GRAMMY winners from New Jersey.
