AAMD works on a range of international issues, including:

• Interaction with foreign embassies located in Washington DC on issues of cultural property
• Cultural property questions and rules regarding the importation and collection of archaeological materials and ancient art
• Foreign sovereign immunity
• Immunity from seizure and suit for works borrowed from foreign lenders
• Restitution issues related to Holocaust spoliation
• Educational programs on provenance research through seminars, workshops and fellowships

AAMD also organizes public discussions around topics of interest to art museum leaders, stakeholders, and audiences. Recent panels include:
