Overview:
Blackfoot Pathways: Sculpture in the Wild International Sculpture Park www.sculptureinthewild.com celebrates the rich environmental, industrial, and cultural heritage of Montana’s beautiful Blackfoot Valley. Situated on a 26-acre wooded parkland, sculptors from around the world, the country, and the region have created significant site-specific works of art using the materials - natural and industrial - that are associated with the community's economic and cultural traditions.
In 2014 five internationally renowned artists, four from abroad and one from the US, created the first Sculpture in the Wild installations.   Since then, each September an artist-in-residence event has showcased selected artists during a three-week residency where they create large scale art installations with support from a network of community volunteers.   Currently, Sculpture in the Wild has 20 large scale art installations. 
Sculpture in the Wild has become a destination site for Montana, US, and international visitors with over 48,000 people visiting in 2021.  The Park has been recognized by CNN in 2020 as one of nine of the US’s wildest, weirdest and most spectacular outdoor art experiences” in 2020.  SIXT International car rental lists BPSW as one of the “15 Best Places to Road Trip in the US.”
In addition, BPSW has been recognized and honored by receiving the 2019 Montana Tourism Award; the 2019 Lewis and Clark County Heritage Tourism Council Historical Preservation Award for Artistic Repurpose of Historic Delaney Sawmill Teepee Burner, and the 2020 Montana Governor’s Arts Award.
General Job Description:
The Executive Director is responsible for the functions, maintenance, and continued development of the Sculpture Park.  This is a self-directed individual contributor position who will work with the board of directors. The ED is expected to learn, understand, and take action to further the development and long-term viability of the Sculpture Park. 
The position reports to the Board of Directors and will receive primary direction from the President of the Board.  The Executive Director will work within the framework of the BPSW Mission Statement, Goals and Objectives, and Long-Term Vision: www.sculptureinthewild.com/mission-statement.html

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Work with the Board in fund raising.  Responsibilities include:
o Write foundation grants
o Research fundraising opportunities for the program
o Develop presentations for fund raising events and meetings with donors
• Engage in networking and professional sharing.
o Create links with arts and educational institutions
o Develop connections with national and international sculpture networks
o Promote the Artist in Residency Program among colleagues
• Oversee the Artist in Residence program (traditionally three weeks in September).  Responsibilities include:
o Research and coordinate artist selection of national and/or international repute for participation in the Artist in Residence Program
o Facilitate obtaining artist contracts and resolving any conflicts
o Coordinate artist visits including logistics, materials and manpower required for the installation
o Direct on-site project management during the artist’s residency
• Assist in the development and delivery of the education program including community programming.
• Develop and Deliver Public Relations and promotion.
o Maintain website and social media sites
o Write press releases
o Maintain photographic documentation of residency program for website, social media and funding opportunities
o Develop image archive for publication
o Develop signage and promotional materials for the Sculpture Park
o Participate in the promotion of the Sculpture Park via speaking engagements, public, and social appearances
• Communicate with the Board of Directors.  Activities include:
o Interact with the President of the Board on a regular basis 
o Issue four reports each year to the Board of Directors due on the first day of each quarter.  The content of the report will reflect the activities of the past quarter and plans for the next year
o Participate in a monthly conference call with the Secretary of the Board and, potentially, other Board members
o Coordinate Board of Director meetings

 
Required Qualifications:
• A minimum of a degree from an accredited 4-year college/university or equivalent work experience (at least 3 years) showing expertise in arts, business or nonprofit management, or communication
• Ability to supervise, motivate, and work collaboratively with others as part of a team, showing a healthy sense of humor
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically, develop and manage complex projects from start-up to completion, and adopt new approaches in response to changing circumstances. Ability to learn and translate information into action
• Ability to work independently
• Knowledge of and a passion for the arts
Desired Qualifications:
• Strong financial management ability or experience, including budget development and fiscal management with a track record of securing sponsorships and grants
• Leadership experience managing a non-profit organization
• A demonstrated track record of fundraising, preferably with major donor experience
• Strong ability to manage online and social media platforms and content
• Public speaking and effective public engagement
• Managing artists and volunteers
• Expertise in an arts field
