Statement in response to the November 10 action by Massachusetts Appeals Court to delay the proposed sale of artworks by the Berkshire Museum

November 11, 2017

The American Alliance of Museums and the Association of Art Museum Directors are grateful that the Massachusetts Court of Appeals has determined to enjoin the proposed sale by the Berkshire Museum of iconic artworks from its collection. Our organizations believe that conservation, exhibition, and study of collections are at the heart of a museum’s service to its community.  Collections should not be treated as disposable financial assets. We would like to thank Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey and her staff for their work on behalf of the citizens of Massachusetts.
