Purpose:
The Director of Finance is responsible for leading and managing the financial operations for the Blanton Museum of Art. This position plays a critical role in strategic financial planning, resource allocation, and fiscal oversight to ensure the museum operates efficiently and aligns with institutional goals. The Director of Finance acts as a key advisor to the museum Director and other members of senior leadership on financial matters and provides data-driven insights and recommendations to support informed decision-making. This position requires a focus on collaboration, pro-active, informed strategy, and efficient processes to ensure that the museum provides effective and impactful services to its constituents.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, manage and monitor the annual budget and budgeting process, ensuring alignment with museum strategies and in compliance with university instructions; coordinate required documentation for Provost Office.
- Lead the development of short- and long-term financial plans and forecasts, multi-year budget planning, and variance analyses to support strategic planning efforts.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue generation while maintaining financial sustainability.
- Produce financial reports for the museum including monthly financial reports, statements, estimates, projections, and quarterly reviews accurately and timely in order to allow the director to manage and monitor the financial strategy of the museum.
- Oversee business-related contracts and communicate with UT Business Contracts and UT Legal
- Liaise with Provost’s Office, university finance offices and business operations, other administrative offices, and museum colleagues to ensure consistency and best practices in financial operations.
- Serves a liaison between the museum and various University departments including accounting, purchasing, internal audit and legal department.
- Interpret and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures and state and federal law and regulations.
- Other related functions as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance required.
- Minimum of ten years of broad-based finance experience as a Chief Financial Officer (or a closely related role) in a complex philanthropic or nonprofit setting.
- Extensive experience with budget and financial analysis; knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting.
- Collaborative approach to work and ability to initiate and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of colleagues and stakeholders.
- Excellent leadership, pro-active decision-making, and management skills.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and care
- Expertise in organizational management and planning
- Proficient in database and accounting computer application systems.
- Understanding of nonprofit and museum regulations and standards as it pertains to staff, art, standards, and practices.
- Strong interpersonal skills and exceptional communication and presentation skills, both written and spoken, with an ability to inform, influence, convince, and persuade.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance preferred.
- Minimum of ten years of broad-based finance experience in a leadership role in a collection-based museum, arts institution, or related nonprofit field or organization.
- Experience with Quickbooks.
- Certified Public Accountant designation.
Salary Range
$150,000 + depending on qualifications
