Director of Development

Mission:

The Las Vegas Museum of Art’s art mission is to serve its diverse community through inclusive

exhibitions and programs across ages, cultures, and genres.


Position Overview:

The Las Vegas Museum of Art (LVMA) seeks a dynamic Director of Development with experience

advancing strategic fundraising goals and a proven record of securing major gifts across individual giving,

foundations, government support, and grants. Reporting to the Executive Director (ED), the Director will

represent the Museum to a wide range of funders, community leaders, and external stakeholders. In this

leadership role, the Director will collaborate closely with the Executive Director to shape the Museum’s

fundraising strategy, cultivate relationships with philanthropists, and build a donor engagement program

from the ground up. Additionally, the Director will serve as a key staff representative and liaison to the

LVMA Board of Trustees and the Development Committee.


The Director will join LVMA amidst a Capital Campaign to realize the first freestanding art Museum in Las

Vegas, home to over 2.4 million residents. Capital contributions support the construction of an

architectural landmark by Pritzker Laureate Francis Kéré, the Museum’s endowment, and long-term

unrestricted operating support. The Director will lead and manage the day-to-day activity of all

development operations, including CRM Management, donor prospecting, grant writing, galas, cultivation

events, and initiatives. LVMA seeks an inspiring team leader to mentor and nurture a dynamic and

thriving Development team of 2, with plans for future growth.


Responsibilities:

Development and Fundraising Strategy:


  • Lead the creation and execution of a comprehensive fundraising plan aligned with the Museum’s
  • strategic priorities, including capital campaign, endowment growth, and annual operating support
  • Identify, prioritize, and pursue funding opportunities across individual, corporate, foundation, and
  • government sectors
  • Collaborate closely with the Executive Director to set fundraising goals and assess performance
  • metrics across all development channels


Donor Relations:


  • Cultivate and steward relationships with major donors and prospects through personalized
  • engagement strategies; Design and implement a comprehensive donor recognition program that
  • builds loyalty and reflects donor impact
  • Oversee the planning and execution of cultivation events, donor briefings, and exclusive
  • programs to deepen donor involvement
  • Partner with trustees and campaign leadership to advance solicitation efforts and leverage peer
  • networks
  • Support the Board of Trustees and ED in day-to-day correspondence, planning, meeting
  • preparation, and action items


External Affairs:


  • Serve as a key external ambassador for LVMA, representing the institution to funders, civic
  • leaders, and cultural partners across Las Vegas and beyond
  • Build strategic partnerships that enhance the Museum’s visibility and philanthropic reach,
  • including corporate sponsorships and community alliances
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to align fundraising messaging with public
  • outreach and campaigns


Management and Team Leadership Responsibilities:


  • Supervise and mentor a high-performing Development team of 3, with future staffing expansion
  • based on organizational growth
  • Oversee daily operations of the Development department, including gift processing, reporting,
  • CRM database management and research
  • Collaborate with Finance and other departments to ensure alignment of development efforts with
  • budget planning and organizational priorities


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Non-profit Management, Business Administration, Museum Studies,
  • Communications, Hospitality/Tourism, or a related field, and/or its work experience equivalent
  • 5-10 years of experience in progressive fundraising roles (Non-profit and Cultural Institutions
  • preferred), with 3+ years of experience in a Senior Management, Major Gifts, Hospitality or client cultivation role
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, persuasive speaking, and
  • polished presentation skills
  • Strong computing skills and familiarity with CRM/Donor database systems, and prospect research platforms
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and flexible startup environment
