Artistic Director

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is one of the oldest and most prominent art museums in the Netherlands, with an international collection spanning seven centuries of art and design. Its collections of drawings and prints, early Netherlandish painting, and Surrealism are among the finest in the world. In 2021, the world's first publicly accessible art depot opened alongside the museum, a unique concept that has resonated widely on the international stage. With the renovation of the museum building well underway and a reopening anticipated in 2030, the museum finds itself at one of the most defining and opportunity-rich moments in its 175-year history.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an artistic leader to guide the museum into a new chapter alongside a strong team. The ambition is to grow the annual number of visitors from an average of 280,000 to more than 550,000. With the goal to more than double the museum's revenue after reopening to approximately €55 million per year. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is seeking an Artistic Director who will develop a clear, distinctive artistic vision for the unique combination of museum and Depot and translate it into a nationally and internationally relevant programme. The Artistic Director will build on the quality and breadth of the collection, make strategic choices in presentation and partnerships, and take responsibility for attracting public and private funding — all while connecting artistic excellence and entrepreneurship with a broad public and the dynamic, international city of Rotterdam.
