The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) at the University of Central Florida invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, Art Gallery coordinator (internal title of Art Gallery director). This is a non-tenure earning position, at the rank of instructor or lecturer. The UCF Art Gallery coordinator will create an innovative exhibition and lecture program that inspires and informs SVAD majors (in the following areas of study: studio art, architecture, animation, architecture, art history, film, digital media, game design, graphic design, information design, and product design) and also appeals to the broader college, campus, and local communities. The UCF Art Gallery coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of developing exhibitions and administration of UCF Art Gallery operations, including, but not limited to: managing part-time and volunteer staff, creating and managing budgets, identifying and pursuing fundraising opportunities, creating community outreach initiatives, and collaborating with established public art programs.

The successful candidate will teach one course per semester, perform service and participate in campus and community life. UCF supports and rewards teaching excellence. UCF offers undergraduate B.F.A. and B.A. degrees as well as M.F.A. and M.A. degrees in studio arts. The School of Visual Arts & Design has approximately 2,700 majors across four areas that include architecture, digital media, film, and studio arts. The position anticipated start date is in August 2014, pending the availability of funding.

Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in studio art or a related field from an accredited institution, or a master’s degree in art history or a related field from an accredited institution; effective communication skills; experience successfully managing complex projects; evidence of promising scholarly or curatorial record; and 3-years experience in exhibition development in a gallery or museum setting required.

Preferred:  Terminal degree in studio art, art history, or related field from an accredited institution. The search committee is seeking a hands-on, resourceful, collaborative, multi-talented professional, with minimum 3-years full-time experience developing significant curatorial projects in a gallery or museum setting. The successful candidate will also have proven experience in institutional administration (including managing staff, budgets, facilities, and developing community outreach initiatives and opportunities) and will demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills. Teaching experience at the college level is also highly valued.
