Education Programs Manager (Meadows Museum)

Salary commensurate with experience & qualifications.

 

Job Summary:

SMU’s Meadows Museum is seeking an Education Programs Manager who will oversee all initiatives relating to Meadows Museum public and tour programs, working closely with the Director of Education in administering many other community and campus initiatives of the department.

 

Essential Functions:

·         Work with the Director of Education to develop and manage all aspects of the Meadows Museum docent training program for current and new participants.

·         Develop and implement Meadows Museum tours and programs for K-12 teachers and students.

·         Work with the Director of Education to develop and organize Meadows Museum public programs involving hands-on activities, such as sketching in the galleries, family days, and family workshops.

·         Manage all Meadows Museum internships, student docents, and academic programs.

·         Coordinate logistics of Meadows Museum public programs such as lectures, symposia, gallery talks.

·         Work jointly with other education staff to plan and execute special events and serve as a Museum representative at various campus and community programs/events.

·         Work with the Director of Education and the curatorial department to create and edit interpretive materials such as gallery guides, label text and website content.

 

Education and Experience:

Master’s degree in art museum education or art history or art education is required.

 

If degree is not in art museum education, art museum education certification is preferred.

 

A minimum of three years of art museum education experience working with diverse audiences is required.

 

Broad knowledge of art history is required.

 

Strong background with K-12 is required.

 

Some background in Spanish language is preferred.

 

Experience working with constituents in higher education is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must have excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively interact with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Must be able to present information to a wide variety of audiences.

 

Candidate should have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships with internal teams as well as external local, national and international communities.

 

Must be effective in providing art museum education with varied audiences, and especially strong with grades K-12. Must be very customer focused.

 

Candidate must demonstrate excellent problem solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze

problems as well as to devise solutions using creativity, innovation and resourcefulness.

 

Candidate must have excellent organizational and planning skills.

 

Must have strong project management and be attentive to details.

 

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

 

This position requires regular work on Thursday evenings and some weekends in order to manage public programs.

Physical/Environmental Demands:

This position must be able to reach above shoulders, carry/lift 25 lbs., sit for long periods of time, handle objects (dexterity), stand, and walk for long distances.
