Director of Museum Technology

The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA) has a position opening for a Director of Museum Technology. Reporting to the Edna S. Tuttleman Director of the Museum, this position will be responsible for utilizing existing and new technology platforms to improve the visitor experience, developing an online experience unifying PAFA’s three exhibition spaces, creating a seamless transition from PAFA’s online presence to its physical spaces, and generally transforming the museum experience for visitors to PAFA’s Museum. The Director of Museum Technology will support PAFA in its goal to be more responsive to its audience, make greater use of its collections to respond to current events and national conversations, extend the institution’s reach beyond its geographical borders, and support increased attendance (online and offline) to the Museum through an improved visitor experience.

This position will primarily be responsible for auditing existing technology in the institution with the goal of maximizing for the visitors’ experience, and creating in-gallery exhibition interpretations that use technology to make the gallery experience more dynamic. They will record, archive, and make globally available all public programming at PAFA, including symposia, panel discussions, artist lectures, and oral histories with artists taken as part of exhibition projects. They will enhance PAFA's digital collection and archives resources to increase scope and usability for the public. They will develop an app/digital guide, including online learning opportunities for PAFA's audiences (students, members, families, etc.) that fundamentally unites the campus. This position will advise and assist with producing digital assets for the website and also assist with enhancing the functionality of PAFA’s website and other multimedia, including video content. In addition, this position will track and report metrics.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree in Museum Exhibitions, Communications or a related field, and have at least 5-7 years’ experience. Qualified applicants will have a solid understanding of HTML 5 and other web systems, be interested in developing new hardware and building with existing and future technologies and possess a proven record of initiating concepts and developing technologies that lead to the goals defined above. Candidates should have excellent organizational, written and oral communications skills, and experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
