MISSION

The Elisabeth Jones Art Center (EJAC) is the only art institution in Portland with world-wide reach dedicated to the development of an extensive range of art programs that advocate for environmental health and social justice. We inspire artists to generate new work and to collaborate on projects that address a wide range of problems affecting Portland and the broader human community.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR REQUIREMENTS

Oversee growth, fundraising and reporting commensurate with the mission, budget, by-laws, Articles of Incorporation and fiscal controls as the Art Center completes an important transition from a privately-funded entity to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit funded by multiple sources.

Raise funds for the entire budget and collaboratively develop plans with the Founding Director for Board approval and sustainable community involvement.

Lead EJAC’s continuing financial and organizational development in collaboration with the Board of Directors and the Founding Director as programs and exhibits embracing a continually widening range of issues are developed.

Co-direct effective allocation of staff duties commensurate with the 501(c)(3) status.

Contribute direction and focus to positioning EJAC at the center of the Portland community as a visionary agent of environmental and social justice as manifested in the visual arts’ unique role in the evolving relationships between contemporary art and society.

Create a sustainable regional donor base across many modes of solicitation on behalf of the community of artists engaged through EJAC.

Lead the alignment of the financial side with mission goals in conjunction with the Board. Oversee Board development. The budgets presented to the Board will be developed in collaboration with the Founding Director

Exhibitions range from traditional media to the new and unconventional. Classes, workshops and community events further our mission to harness the potential of visual artists to encourage care of the environment and promote social justice.

DESIRED ABILITIES, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Demonstrated experience in development and significant fundraising for nonprofit arts organizations.

Talent for developing relationships between donors and EJAC as a new audience grows for visual art and events involving the physical space of the Art Center as well as digital representations of it.

Desired Background Experience: administrative and fundraising experience with not-for-profit arts organizations, some advantageous background in Communications, Business, Arts or Environmental Organizations, BA in Art History, BS in Environmental Science or Social Justice, Equity and Inclusion.

Enthusiasm for broad interpretations of visual art, mediums, and theories and a special commitment to environmental protection and social justice.

Familiarity with nonprofit reporting, and financial control structures and protocols commensurate with creating and expanding a donor base.

Ability to communicate and exercise leadership in collaborative development of budget discipline with the EJAC Board and Founding Director.
