Chief Financial Officer

The Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) seeks an experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive team at an exciting point in the museum’s evolution. OCMA is in the midst of an historic transition to its new 53,000 square foot home at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, CA. Currently under construction and opening in fall 2022, the CFO will play a vital role in leading OCMA’s business and financial strategy to scale and sustain the museum.

Reporting directly to the CEO and Director, the CFO serves as a key member of an expanding executive leadership team overseeing all financial and accounting matters and ensuring transparency, oversight, sustainability, and compliance. Primary duties include developing procedures for budget administration, cash management, and accounting to maximize efficiencies; preparing financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, and projected and pro forma budgets; monitoring endowments; performing financial analysis and modeling; and supervising employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with CEO and Director to ensure that financial systems, analysis and reporting effectively support OCMA’s financial information needs, long-range financial plans, and compliance
• Maintain accounting control over a growing endowment ($14-$40M); Construction budget and Capital Campaign ($75-90M); Annual operating budget ($3.5-$10M)
• Manage day-to-day financial activities, such as purchasing and accounts payable/receivable; cash management and cash flow forecasting; and semi- monthly payroll functions
• Coordinate annual museum budget preparation and grant project budgets
• Manage banking relationships
• Manage cash flow, including the preparation of annual and monthly cash flow
projections and monthly bank reconciliations
• Prepare, analyze and present timely and accurate financial reports; forecast
budget variances; and coordinate the annual audit
• Develop the finance and accounting infrastructure for, and manage the
operations of, the Café and Shop opening in 2022

Requirements and Qualifications

• Minimum experience of seven years in nonprofit administration and two years fund accounting experience
• Outstanding organizational, management, and supervisory skills
• Discreet, ability to maintain confidentiality
• Excellent time-management, problem-prevention, and problem-solving skills
• Ability to represent the museum with a high level of professionalism and adhere to
museum policies
• Ability to work effectively with colleagues and Board of Trustees
• Good business judgment, analytical mindset, and decision-making abilities
• Great capacity for flexibility and adaptability to shifting needs
• Experience with Sage500 is desirable
• Knowledge and enthusiasm for visual art is desirable
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting and CPA
