Diversity and Engagement Leader

Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute (Munson-Williams), working with Integrated Community Alternatives Network (ICAN), seeks a dynamic and resourceful individual who is committed to embedding diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) into every aspect of the two organizations. The Diversity and Engagement Leader (DEL) is a new senior-level position that will help lead Munson-Williams’ and ICAN’s diversity and inclusiveness initiatives by building meaningful relationships between Munson-Williams / ICAN and community partners and organizations throughout the city and by developing DEIA training and programming. The DEL will be employed by Munson Williams and, through a contractual arrangement, Munson-Williams will dedicate 50% of the DEL’s time to work with ICAN.

Parallel responsibilities for both organizations include:
•  Lead existing DEIA teams/committees to inform organizational DEIA plans, including policies, procedures, and practices
•  Work with senior leadership to guide the development and implementation of DEIA training (Training developed or led by the DEL, Munson-Williams/ICAN staff, and/or consultants will be shared between both organizations, with the goal of expanding training to community partners.)
•  Act as an advocate for Munson-Williams and ICAN in the community, representing the organizations at key community functions
• Model the missions and values of the organizations to colleagues and the public by being welcoming, inclusive, and respectful
• Manage departmental budgets
• Ensure DEIA efforts are aligned with national best practices
• Prepare and analyze reports/data to monitor organizational progress in order to ensure DEIA is an institutional priority
• Performs other duties as assigned

At Munson-Williams, the DEL will:
• Be an ambassador for Munson-Williams by building relationships and initiating community collaborations, committees, focus groups, and outreach programs that create a dynamic avenue for the incorporation of diverse community voices in Munson-Williams programming
• Lead the existing African American Community Partners committee
• Help initiate change by exploring potential barriers to community participation at Munson-Williams and by leading an interdivisional Munson-Williams team that applies the data/information gathered through focus and community advisory groups to develop and manage strategies, including marketing approaches
• Assist with various special events and community and regional engagement opportunities

At ICAN, the DEL will also:
• Work with senior leadership and the existing ICAN DEI Team to bring their DEI-specific expertise to inform the agency’s DEI Plan
• Collaborate with ICAN’s Training and Education Department to incorporate DEI into all existing mental health, crisis response, and other training we provide to our staff, providers, and staff at other nonprofits
• Support ICAN in creating DEI-focused training modules to share with nonprofits across the region, which will be offered virtually and in-person (post-COVID-19). This training will be offered free of charge through the Community Foundation’s Learning Series.

What the candidate will bring:
• Candidate must be an outstanding communicator with solid verbal, written, and presentation skills; must have strong organizational and follow-through skills; and be a detail-oriented planner
• Excellent managerial abilities to work collaboratively
• Must be energetic and a strong team player who models Munson-Williams vision and culture in all internal and external relationships
• This individual will have community engagement experience, particularly with communities impacted by inequities
• Enthusiasm, positive energy, and a passion for working with people of all ages
• Demonstrated experience in facilitating successful programs and workshops
• Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends

What makes you qualified?
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree
• 3+ years of experience in a relevant work environment with increasing responsibilities
• A successful track record of developing and implementing public programming
• Experience managing others
• An interest in arts and a strong commitment to community

Compensation and Benefits
The hiring range established for this position is $68,000 to $73,000, commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off, and participation in a matching 403(b) retirement plan.
