About the American Song Archives:
The American Song Archives in Tulsa, Oklahoma is the home of the archives of Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Phil Ochs, Tom Paxton, Cynthia Gooding, and many other archival and library collections. We host researchers from around the world who come to explore the rich collections in our holdings.
These collections fuel the exhibitions at the Woody Guthrie Center and the upcoming Bob Dylan Center, in Tulsa's vibrant arts district near downtown and the Greenwood District.
Position Purpose
This position is responsible for managing the Bob Dylan Center on a daily basis; acting as the public face of the center with media, visitors and the general public; creating and executing the annual exhibition plan for the Bob Dylan Center; writing exhibition text and related content for academic and marketing purposes, working with outside curators as needed; collaborating with the development team on fundraising activities; serving as subject matter expert on Bob Dylan.
Essential Duties
To act as the public face of the Bob Dylan Center, including media relations
Demonstrate strong subject-matter knowledge of Bob Dylan and his cultural legacy
To initiate potential acquisition opportunities for the archive team to evaluate and pursue
To present major exhibitions; obtain photographs, artifacts and information on the objects to be presented through own research or research of assistants.
Plan and organize all necessary elements for the exhibition
Make initial contacts with other museums for loans of items for the exhibition, engaging the registrar to complete all required documentation
To work closely with the managing director to successfully execute fundraising strategies.
To ensure exhibition plans are thematically and operationally integrated.
To plan and conduct programming for the Bob Dylan Center, working closely with the events coordinator, marketing director and other team members
Budgeting and forecasting: work with staff to prepare and approve annual budget and monthly forecasts
To research, write, and present either written or oral information on the Bob Dylan Archive collection
To work together with senior team members to achieve shared organization goals
Provide day-to-day oversight of museum during core hours, requiring onsite presence.
Work closely with membership, development and marketing directors to execute revenue-generating strategies
Manage sales/front desk staff. Including effective and timely recruiting, development, time management and evaluation of staff.
To establish and achieve measurable annual goals for the center, including attendance and revenue.
Travel required.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in related field
At least 5 years of museum leadership experience
At least 5 years of people management experience
3+ years of experience in professional fundraising/development to include applied knowledge of fundraising strategies, grants management, and donor relations with foundations, individuals, corporations, and other sources.
3+ years of managing teams in a fast-paced nonprofit, social enterprise, IT or business environment
Preferred
Master’s Degree in related field
8+ years prior curatorial experience
Experience in people management in the sales field
