THE MATTRESS FACTORY seeks qualified applicants to lead a forward-thinking, ambitious, and flexible arts institution as the Executive Director. The Executive Director will serve as a visionary leader who embraces collaboration, innovation, and service to artists and art lovers. The right individual for this role will have a passion for visual and alternative art forms, including site-specific installations, video, and performance art; a commitment to artists and the act of creation; the ability to inspire and mentor strong teams; ensure resource alignment with the mission-based activities; and strategically build systems to improve overall operations and programming. An enthusiasm for fundraising born out of a vibrant talent for communicating the vision of the Mattress Factory is a key priority for the next leader. The Executive Director will build upon, evaluate, and improve current structures and processes so that the Mattress Factory is always prepared to serve artists and patrons with the greatest level of care and attention. Organizational Profile
The Mattress Factory was founded in 1977, by artists, to support artists working in residence to create site-specific installations. Since then, the museum has presented and commissioned new installation and performance works by more than 750 artists. The museum supports established and emerging artists through a residency program that provides leadership, guidance, resources and opportunities to create artwork that is unconventional, challenging and thought-provoking.
