Chief of Security -70990BR

The Chief of Security oversees all aspects of security at the Yale Center for British Art, including all the Center’s locations, and ensures the safety of visitors, staff and artwork while contributing to create a welcoming environment. Reporting to the Deputy Director for Finance and Administration, the Chief of Security is responsible for directing, coordinating and overseeing all activities of the Museum security operations, managing and scheduling of staff, in-house training, overseeing departmental budget, emergency preparedness and managing security electronic systems. The Chief of Security will also be responsible for developing policies and procedures, administering and upgrading security systems and operations and maintaining a strong working partnership with Yale Security and New Haven security forces. 

Ensures a safe and secure work environment for the Center’s employees and visitors while enforcing all security policies and procedures. Responsible for the oversight and management of all aspects of security and safety for the Center, including the Museum located at 1080 Chapel Street, operation offices located at 270 Crown Street, the woodshop located at 1101 Dixwell Avenue, and Yale West Campus. Oversees planning, installation and operation of electronic security systems and devices including the security control room. Develop strategic partnerships with Yale University security offices, local, state and federal law enforcement for all security emergencies and incidents. Maintains and manages operating budget for the department. Participates in exhibition planning and event planning meetings to determine security technology and personnel requirements. Reviews and determines staffing needs, job posting requirements, salary guidelines and labor agreement interpretations for exempt and non-exempt staff in one or more functional department of the University. Manages the administrative support needs for exempt and non-exempt staff and provides recommendations, improvements, solution and assistance and needed. Manages and coordinates training sessions for assigned departments when new policies or practices are adopted. Identifies, plans and develops administrative policies for the assigned departments. Assists in reviewing and implements University and departmental policies as they pertain to the administrative functions of the assigned department. Serves as main security liaison for all departments and third parties as it relates to projects or events. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:  Bachelor’s Degree in related field and three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Qualifications:
• Demonstrated understanding of security systems and protocols.
• Proven ability to provide the highest standards for safety and security relating to facilities, collections, staff and the public.
• Demonstrated excellence in communication, both verbal and written. Strong attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to lead others through strong supervisory and organizational skills. Ability to support, foster and encourage the personal development of security staff. Outstanding interpersonal skills.
• Proven customer service skills with an emphasis on collaboration.
• Preferred Education and Experience: Minimum of 10 years of senior level security management in a museum or library environment.
