Wichita State University (WSU), the only urban-serving, public research university in Kansas, seeks an experienced and engaging arts leader to be the next Director of the Ulrich Museum of Art (the Museum). Founded in 1895, WSU has a keen focus on student success, powerful industry partnerships, and innovative faculty conducting cutting-edge applied research in state-of-the-art facilities. It is a growth-minded university where collaboration and innovative ideas shape the future, with an entrepreneurial spirit embedded in its foundation.

 

The Director will continue the Museum’s trajectory by providing strategic leadership in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and other key internal and external stakeholders, including an actively engaged Advisory Board and the WSU Foundation. The Ulrich is a vital community resource that supports intellectual inquiry and the quest for enjoyment and lifelong learning on the WSU campus and in the greater Wichita area. The next Director will lead a dynamic university art museum, with a high-quality collection and help the Ulrich reach its fullest potential in University and community engagement,

 

Reporting to the Provost, the Director will have a vision for arts engagement and will be a talented relationship builder dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This requires a values-driven leader who is committed to strategic planning, inter-disciplinary collaboration, and who is skilled in human and financial resource management. The Director will have an entrepreneurial approach to forming partnerships and fundraising to support the Museum’s sustainable future and growth.
