Pay Range:                             $100,000 – $120,000

Work Schedule:                      Monday – Friday, plus additional weekends hours as needed

Job Summary:

Provide overall leadership and direction for the institutional operations of the Columbus Museum of Art to ensure the Museum’s mission is fulfilled.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide day-to-day leadership, strategic planning and management to the museum that focuses on the organization's mission and core values.
  2. Direct, implement, and manage an ongoing, long-range operational planning process for the Museum, which results in its continued growth and effectiveness.  Produce timely and effective business plans to document future directions and desired outcomes for the Museum.
  3. Motivate and lead a high-performance management teams in the areas of Building and Grounds, Special Events, Cafe and Security Departments, including but not limited to, additional Operations, Museum Shop, etc. 
  4. On behalf of the Executive Director, maintain consistent communications with the Board of Trustees, volunteer auxiliaries, and key constituencies.
  5. Serve as a member of the Senior Management Team, and work with other management team members to integrate and coordinate planning, operations, and service delivery.  Contribute ideas, concepts, and thoughts needed to support and evolve a dynamic organization in a team management environment.
  6. Provide leadership and direct involvement in creating positive, mutually supportive relationships with the Museum’s endorsed vendors and business partners.
  7. Be of counsel to the Executive Director, providing the support and ideas necessary to create an exciting and vital institution. 
  8. Successfully implement other programs or special projects as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Business, or relevant field
  2. 5 to 10 years of arts or equivalent professional experience as well as relevant business operations and strategic planning experience.
  3. Strong administrative and communication skills.  Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Board of Trustees, volunteers, staff and a wide range of community leaders. Conflict Resolution skills are required.
  4. Ability to adapt and be flexible in an environment where creativity is key.
  5. Proven ability to select and manage staff, assign tasks, schedule work, follow-up and evaluate. Must be able to grow and develop department teams.
  6. Clear understanding of the needs of diverse Museum audiences.
  7. Ability to work with sensitive material and maintain confidentiality. Detailed – oriented and organized.
  8. Knowledge of and experience in budgeting and financial management in a complex environment.  Must have skill with Excel and financial reporting.

 

Performance Standards:

  1. Accurate and timely completion of all plans, tasks, studies, reports, and other information needed to lead and manage the Museum in collaboration with the Executive Director.
  2. Work professionally and effectively with staff, Board of Trustees, and volunteer leadership.
  3. Achieve budgeted targets for revenue growth and operating profit.
  4. Manage customer service facing and all operational departmental functions  
  5. Demonstrate ability to develop innovative concepts, ideas, and plans, which support the successful development of the organization as well as profitability of programs and services.

 

Physical Demands:

Staff member must be able to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to touch, handle or feel.  Must be able to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  Must be able to talk and hear.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Work Environment:

Environment is office space.

Covid & Staff: 

  • Staff are required to wear masks inside the Museum and office areas
  • Vaccines are required for new hires; 1st dose required before start date and must provide proof of their vaccinated status upon hire.
  • Contact tracing and virus testing policies are in place if staff are exposed to or test positive for the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2).
