GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Vice President, Learning and Audience Engagement the Director, Studio Programs provides a vision for the department that engages a wide array of audiences. The director leads and manages the department's staff of teaching-artists and coordinators, ensures studio spaces are well maintained and welcoming, and oversees the development and implementation of year-round, learner-centered art-making programs that meet the mission of the DIA. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide a vision for DIA art-making experiences that align with museum goals and engage a wide array of audiences and work with DIA staff and other organizations to implement that vision.
• Oversee the development, implementation, evaluation, and coordination of a robust schedule of art-making programs.
• Work collaboratively with other departments and divisions to strategize and coordinate museum-wide programming efforts.
• Build and sustain partnerships with community arts organizations, human service agencies, schools, and others so that studio programs address the needs and interests of community stakeholders.
• Ensure DIA studio spaces are well maintained, welcoming, and safe for a broad array of visitors, regardless of age, ability, or art-making experience.
• Facilitate weekly and quarterly meetings with DIA staff and community partners.
• Work with the Marketing department to develop and implement marketing plans and materials for studio programs throughout the year, wayfinding materials, and signage for the Learning Center art studio spaces. 
• Assist the Development department in its fundraising efforts, and the Public Affairs department in its tri-county messaging efforts.
• Facilitate learner-centered, pedagogically sound art-making experiences for diverse audiences of all ages, including those with special needs.
• Manage the department, determining priorities and goals, scheduling and annual budget for all sections ensuring that department resources and staff support the museum's strategic goals and annual museum-wide goals, and that those goals are met on schedule and within budget.
• Recruit, mentor, develop and successfully manage a team to achieve the strategic objectives and the present and future needs of the department in alignment with the museum’s annual priorities and strategic vision.
• Create a collaborative work environment by using a performance support process including goal setting, feedback, and development.
• Demonstrated commitment to foster, promote, and support Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) by embracing difference, connecting and engaging with empathy, and promoting a culture of belonging among internal and external stakeholders
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Master’s degree in Art Education, Arts Administration, Fine Arts, or a related field. Seven years of experience as an art educator in a formal setting required.  Must have three (3) years management at an art museum, art center, or non-profit including direct supervision of a team. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Experience and knowledge of art-making process and techniques in a variety of media.
• Demonstrated understanding of learning theory and best practices in education and experience applying that knowledge in an education setting.
• A history of working with both artists and people of all ages who have little art-making experience, including audiences with special needs.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and build partnerships.
• Outstanding interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills.
• Ability to work occasional weekend and evening hours for special events (If needed).
• Must be proficient in latest version of Office 365.
• Must have proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as scheduling with, connecting to, and using digital collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
• Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive, and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork. This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor.
