Director and Chief Executive Officer

Director and Chief Executive Officer
McNay Art Museum
San Antonio, Texas

The McNay Art Museum (McNay) seeks a community-centered and innovative museum leader to become its next Director and Chief Executive Officer (Director). The McNay is committed to being San Antonio’s place of belonging, where the Museum’s expanding community is reflected in transformational art experiences. The new leader will drive that vision forward. The Director will lead the articulation of an ambitious strategy, and execute a plan that will codify the vision, and sustain and intensify the Museum’s remarkable recent record of success.

Opening in 1954 as the first modern art museum in Texas, the Museum was created by Marion Koogler McNay. As an artist and collector, McNay was inspired by both American and European art and left in her will a brilliant and eclectic collection along with her Spanish Colonial-Revival home to serve as a museum for the community and allow all to share in her love of modern art. Today the Museum boasts 23,000 works in its collection and serves around 200,000 visitors annually through innovative events, exhibitions, and programs.

Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Director will oversee an operating budget of approximately $8.7 million and a staff of 104. This role requires a values-driven leader with the ability to inspire staff, the Board, and supporters. The Director will bring the strategic, intellectual, and administrative talent and experience to lead a complex organization, have a passion for the transformative power of art, and a record of success in generating the financial resources required to achieve the Museum’s mission. With a deeply personal commitment to the Museum and its community, the fourth Director will build and sustain relationships with current and future supporters and stakeholders, both locally and nationally.
