Executive Director

The Churchill Arts Council is seeking an Executive Director with excellent leadership, fundraising, and administrative skills, who is innovative, collaborative, and dedicated to enriching the cultural and social life of our community and region.

Position Summary

The Executive Director of the Churchill Arts Council provides the leadership, inspiration, and strategic direction to enable the Churchill Arts Council to achieve its goals for artistic excellence, financial sustainability, and community engagement. The Executive Director is responsible and accountable for all aspects of Churchill Arts Council’s objectives, including: artistic, educational, and community-based programing; financial management; member development; and fundraising.

The Executive Director is responsible for the creation and successful execution of multi- year strategic planning in support of the Churchill Arts Council’s mission statement and vision. The Executive Director is also responsible for developing and managing annual funding, public and corporate grants, major gifts, special events, and capital campaigns. The Executive Director directs the efforts of the Churchill Arts Council’s staff and volunteers, while working collaboratively with the Board of Directors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Administration and Leadership
• Serves as authorizing official, fiscal, and personnel officer for the Churchill Arts Council.
• Collaborates with the Board of Directors to develop and oversee multi-year planning, strategies, and goals for the Churchill Arts Council.
• Maintains clear and transparent communication between the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and donors.
• Develops, implements, and supervises programs and services that are consistent with the Churchill Arts Council’s mission, and that meet the needs of constituents.
• Creates the annual long range strategic plan for the Churchill Arts Council.

Community Engagement
• Serves as the chief spokesperson for the Churchill Arts Council in the community and with the media.
• Develops effective working relationships within the community and promotes community support of the arts and the Churchill Arts Council.
• Works with city, county, and state groups to advocate for the arts in the community.
• Actively seeks inclusion, membership, and engagement in regional, state, and national organizations that support the arts.
• Supervises public relations and marketing efforts.

Fundraising and Fiscal Management
• In partnership with the Board of Directors, creates and executes short and long-term fundraising plans including individual major donors, foundations, public sources, and special events.
• Responsible for the discovery, application, and administration of grants.
• Prepares the Churchill Arts Council’s annual working budgets for administration, programs, and activities.
• Supervises and approves the paying of expenses and payroll.
• Supervises the preparation of financial information for tax, auditing, and compliance purposes.
• Supervises the preparation of monthly and annual financial reports for the Board of Directors.
• Maintains consistent communication with the Board of Directors on all fiscal developments.

Staff and Operations Oversight
• Hires, supervises, and evaluates the Churchill Arts Council’s small staff and volunteers.
• Coordinates work with the Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers.
• Works with the Programming Director to coordinate mission-based arts programming.
• Works with the Community Outreach Director on community programming, educational opportunities, and fundraising events.

Core Qualifications
• College graduate with at least four (4) years managerial experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization, with significant experience in the arts or a related area; prior experience as Executive Director is preferred.
• Ability to act as a public spokesperson for the Churchill Arts Council, by effectively communicating the Churchill Arts Council’s mission and programs.
• Demonstrates success in leadership roles in a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Extensive project management experience, including the ability to manage time and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and independently.
• Demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with the Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers.
• Service in or leadership of volunteer-driven bodies.
• Experience with regulations and standards governing nonprofit organizations.
• Computer literacy and experience with Apple hardware and the macOS operating system.
• Valid driver’s license and the ability to pass a background check.

Salary: $65,000 – 85,000 annually, dependent on experience
Position: Executive Director
Status: Full-time contracted position (40+ hours a week, approximately 9am-5pm. Additional hours required for after-hours events, weekend events, etc.)
