Salary Survey FAQ
Q: Can I generate a blank version of the survey in PDF, Word, or Excel?
A: Yes! We have survey question guides in multiple formats.
- Download the Survey Guide in Excel
- Download a list of all jobs and job descriptions in the survey
- To download a blank PDF of the survey questions, click the Print icon on the main Salary Survey page.

Q: Can I see a copy of the last Salary Survey my institution submitted?
A: Yes, contact Alison to receive your prior year submissions.
Q: Can I use the pre-populate feature to insert my answers from the 2024 Statistical Survey?
A: Yes, this feature is back! If your institution completed the 2025 Salary Survey, you can use this tool to enter your data from the previous survey. In a given section you would like to pre-populate, click "Pre-populate answers from Salary Survey 2025"; then make any changes needed for that section.

Q: I entered data into the survey but it does not appear to have saved. What happened?
A: Unfortunately this can happen when you navigate through the survey using your browser's forward and back arrows instead of the "previous" and "next" buttons integrated into the survey. Do not use your browser arrows to navigate within the survey!
Q: Should every staff member at my institution be reflected in our Salary Survey submission?
A: No! The Salary Survey benchmarks compensation for some the most common art museum jobs that are present across art museums. You only need to enter compensation information for positions that are most similar to the ones present at your institution. If there's a role you'd like to see included in a future survey please let Alison know.
Q: I have a staff member with a split role. How should I enter their compensation?
A: If a staff member has a position that is split across roles (as in, Deputy Director and Chief Curator), please chose one role that you feel best reflects their responsibilities according to the Salary Survey job descriptions. Do not split into two separate roles.
Q: Do any positions in the survey have names that have changed over the years?
A: Yes, some job titles were updated between 2023 and 2025, so if you last completed the survey in 2023 or earlier you will notice these changes. They are reflected directly in the survey as well as in the Salary Survey job descriptions.
Q: Do any roles have alternate title options?
A: Yes. Alternate titles are reflected directly in the survey in each position listing, as well as in the job descriptions. Not every role has a list of alternate titles. If you hae suggestions for alternate titles you'd like to see reflected in future surveys please let Alison know.
Q: I have a part-time employee in a position that is reflected in the survey, but that position doesn't have an option to enter information for part-time employees. How should I proceed?
A: Do not include them in the survey. We have included options to include part-time hourly compensation for museum jobs that are regularly held by part-time employees. If a position in the survey does not have the option to enter part-time hourly compensation it means we have historically not received enough part-time employment data to properly benchmark it in the survey.
Q: I have completed the survey. Why can't I see the Submit button?
A: You are likely missing one (or more) mandatory question somewhere along the line! If you are unable to locate where you are missing data contact Alison for help.
