February 12, 2018: The Trump Administration has asked Congress to shut down the Institute of Museum and Library Services, National Endowment for the Arts, and National Endowment for the Humanities in its proposed budget for FY 2019.  The proposal is identical to that made for FY 2018, which Congress ignored; in fact, Congress actually voted to give very slight increases to the agencies.  With the administration's proposal having been made, the next step is for the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to hold hearings, take testimony, and make their own recommendations, which usually come out in the late spring or early summer.

The budget proposal also asks Congress to eliminate funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting as well as numerous programs at the US Department of Education, including after-school, arts, and professional development.
