In 2014, the Chrysler Museum of Art hosted nine high school students through the Governors School for the Arts workshop, Video + Glass: Optics of the Lens. Students collaborated while learning how to use glass, video, and optical illusions in their studio practice. The students worked on two large projects over the duration of the course: “The Impossible Space” and “The Investigated Body.” The students learned research skills, traditional hot glass making, and video editing. The assignments challenged them conceptually to consider impossible spaces, identity, stop animation, sculpture, mixed media, and even recontextualizing infomercials. Video + Glass has helped these college-bound students craft diverse portfolios that include video, glass, and sound.
