SENIOR EXHIBITION PRODUCTION MANAGER

Full-time

We have an opening for a full-time Senior Exhibition Production Manager at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago to oversee the production of MCA exhibitions. We are looking for someone who is:

Experienced in leading a team of art-handling and production staff and contractors
An enthusiastic team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment
Motivated to share their extensive knowledge of professional art handling, exhibition design, and production.
The Senior Exhibition Production Manager works within the Collections and Exhibitions team to assist in the planning, design, and execution of exhibitions and the maintenance, storage, and ongoing care of the permanent collection. Specific responsibilities include:

Supervise elements of production including design, construction, installation, storage, and handling of art works for major gallery exhibitions and permanent collection needs
Be comfortable guiding the installation of a comprehensive range of artwork in a variety of media and handling art in accordance with best practice
Advise on and solve logistical challenges as they arise in staffing, installation, and exhibition design.
Lead the team of preparators and collaborate with the registrars in adhering to project timelines
Perform all duties in accordance with MCA policies, practices, and procedures
You must also have a BS, BA, or BFA or related experience with at least five years of supervisory experience and ten years museum or other professional art handling and production experience. Other requirements include:

Project management skills, including budgeting
Disciplined knowledge of art handling, packing, and installation of various media
Previous experience including carpentry, rigging, and gallery lighting
Working knowledge of construction methods such as drywall, painting, and framing
Familiarity with operating fork/aerial lifts and moving of large/heavy objects and crates
Working knowledge of gallery lighting, carpentry, and woodworking skills
Comprehensive art history background preferred
Positive attitude with a professional demeanor
An advocate for accessibility and inclusive production design specifications preferred
High level of motivation and ability to guide others in a fast-paced environment
Previous experience successfully working independently and with teams to complete tasks
Proficiency in MS Office Working knowledge of digital design systems such as SketchUp or AutoCAD preferred
This is a full time position with a varied work schedule that includes weekends and holidays. Ability to effectively communicate in English, in both written and oral forms is required. General mobility throughout all museum properties is required. Ability to safely lift 60lbs is required.
