Arts & Minds en el Museo del Barrio

January 21, 2016

El Museo del Barrio has partnered with Arts & Minds, a nonprofit dedicated to improving quality of life for people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, to create New York’s first Spanish language museum program for people with memory loss. Through interactions with El Museo’s exhibitions and permanent collection, participants in Arts & Minds en el Museo del Barrio can respond, spark memories and create connections. Arts & Minds en el Museo del Barrio takes place twice each month.

“As a pioneer in bilingual museum education, El Museo is proud to partner with Arts & Minds to provide programming to the Spanish-speaking community in New York State. The new program underscores El Museo’s commitment to civic responsibility by serving communities of all ages,” said Jorge Daniel Veneciano, Executive Director of El Museo del Barrio.

The Alzheimer’s Association projects that between 2010-2050 the U.S. will see a 110% increase in new cases of Alzheimer’s diagnosed every year. Older adults in Latino communities have a greater risk of developing dementia than other aging populations.
