Dorothy Kosinski, AAMD Secretary and Director of The Phillips Collection, was recently a guest on The Kojo Nnamdi Show on WAMU alongside Elizabeth Merritt, Director of the Center for the Future of Museums, and Washington Post Culture Critic Philip Kennicott. The topic: Washington, D.C.'s unique museum landscape, which Kosinski called "an absolutely extraordinary rich and varied museum environment." The conversation addressed the particular advantages and challenges to leading a museum in Washington, which, for a city of its size, is uniquely filled with cultural institutions of all sizes and stripes.

The group discussed attendance, fundraising, and public value, among other issues, and their implications in Washington as well as on the broader museum field. Kosinski was sure to note "how keenly aware...every museum is of our service to community and the public value that we contribute," including The Phillips' partnerships with the D.C. Public Schools and Iona Senior Services.
