Exhibition on war and disability sparks continuing partnership between Rollins Museum of Art & Easterseals
Ahead of the opening of the winter 2024 exhibition Silent Protest: Perspectives on War and Disability, the Rollins Museum of Art in Winter Park, FL engaged a new partner: the Easterseals Day Break Center, a daycare for adults with disabilities, many of whom are also veterans.

Fall workshops at the facility combined learning about works in the exhibition (close looking, analysis, discussion of the artist’s biography) with creating their own art project in response. Images of the participants’ artwork was included in Echoes, a supplemental booklet available for free in the gallery and online. The booklet, which also includes commissioned poems inspired by the exhibition, was given to all Easterseals participants in the workshops.
Though the original impetus for the outreach program was a specific exhibition, the effort this season continues with monthly workshops highlighting different works in the museum’s collection. It is but one successful example of short-term exhibition programming that leads to enduring community partnerships and contributes to our ongoing effort to reach as inclusive a community as possible.
