AAMD works on a range of international issues, including:
- Interaction with foreign embassies located in Washington DC on issues of cultural property
- Cultural property questions and rules regarding the importation and collection of archaeological materials and ancient art
- Foreign sovereign immunity
- Immunity from seizure and suit for works borrowed from foreign lenders
- Restitution issues related to Holocaust spoliation
- Educational programs on provenance research through seminars, workshops and fellowships
AAMD also organizes public discussions around topics of interest to art museum leaders, stakeholders, and audiences. Recent panels include:
